Kebede Reta is a coffee producer with a farm of approximately 13 hectares
located in the Buku kebele, within the Hambela Wamena district,
in the Guji area. His farm is considered relatively large
by Ethiopian standards and has its own fully functional wet
processing plant, which allows the separation of the
coffee cherries by density and harvest date, in order to improve the
quality of the final product.
The ripe cherries are hand-picked, pulped, and the beans
are left in washing tanks for 24-48 hours. Once rinsed,
they are spread out on raised beds and left to dry for 7 to 10 days.
They are then stored in a warehouse on the farm for
two and a half months before being transported to the dry mill for
hulling and preparation for export.
